Securing Data Centers: NTT DATA

NTT Global Data Centers Americas continues to expand its footprint in Illinois with their 19-acre property in Itasca. The campus’ 1st data center has been operating since 2021 will deliver 72MW of data capacity to the growing regional market. The CH1 building, now completed, will feature six different 6MW vaults that operate efficiently at a low annual PUE (power use effectiveness). The second data center, CHI2, is moving along through construction to continue the expansion. NTT DATA provides comprehensive data center solutions to meet their customers unique IT infrastructure requirements and is supported by decades of trusted local expertise. They provide full-stack services, leading technologies and is one of the largest connected platforms globally, currently spanning over 50+ countries and regions.

LVS partnered with NTT DATA’s security consultant, Active Security Consulting, Inc., on the overall installation of the data center’s access control and video surveillance solutions. Active Security Consulting, Inc. is a veteran owned and veteran operated small business providing end-to-end security solutions for government, businesses, communities, and estates across the country.  Their goal is to protect and empower their customers with thorough consultation & planning, cutting edge technology, seamless integration, training, and trusted service for a complete security solution.

Access Control System

Utilizing both smart readers and biometric/AI technology, the facility is secured and monitoring entry with integrated electronic safety and security solutions. In certain, high security areas + entering the facility, the use of IDEMIA’s MorphoWave contactless fingerprint reader is being implemented. Users are positively identified with a simple wave of the hand. The patented contactless fingerprint sensor technology scans four fingerprints in 3D in less than 1-second—ensuring the most accurate and reliable fingerprint matching for maximum security. The unrivalled throughput of this fingerprint solution range provides more user convenience and allows employees to avoid queues which is very valuable at peak times.

For the access control door readers, Symmetry smart readers are being implemented for access permissions into various locations within the data center. They are smart card readers using additional keypad security for integrated access control and visitor management. Symmetry Access Control is an intuitive and versatile access control solution that scales from single location businesses to large, multi-site organizations situated across the globe. It helps manage the flow of people throughout your site, whether it’s a high security environment, government regulated property or open campus setting.

Video Surveillance

For video surveillance and security within the data center, they are utilizing Avigilon cameras and technology to monitor activity within the facility. With over 177 indoor cameras and 34 exterior cameras, NTT DATA will have ample security monitoring throughout their entire campus.

It has been a pleasure for our security division to be partnering with Active Security Consulting, Inc. on the data center’s overall security system installation. Being a one-stop-shop for all things design and installation of security and low voltage systems, LVS can fill the gaps for teams all over the country in getting the Chicagoland jobs done.
