Powering Chicago Features LVS Audiovisual Upgrades at CHSD230 | The Power of Better
The latest episode of The Power of Better brings viewers to Chicago’s southwest suburbs as Consolidated High School District 230 sets a new standard for audio-visual excellence. Faced with outdated equipment and technical challenges during school events, the district’s I.T. Service Operations Manager, Marce Gonzalez, recognized the need for change. The schools involved in this project included Victor J. Andrew High School, Carl Sandburg High School, and Amos Alonzo Stagg High School.
Consolidated High School District 230 partnered with Powering Chicago signatory electrical contractors and IBEW Local 134 electricians for this project, which was led by Erik Sover, Audio-Visual Division Manager at Low Voltage Solutions. They installed state-of-the-art audio-visual systems throughout, including a seven-inch touch panel hub as the central remote control, managing volume for microphones and music.
“Our number one job was to come in, take their old system out, put something new that was truly going to stand out. Truly going to stand the test of time and give them something that was just like nothing nobody has ever heard before in a high school stadium,” Sover said.
The project extended to stadiums and gyms, involving speaker and subwoofer installations. Indoors, strategic projector setups were combined with speakers. Outdoors, marine-grade speakers, amplifiers, and wireless microphones were strategically relocated, resulting in an unparalleled audio experience for events.
Steve Thomas, President and Owner of leading subcontractor Volt AV, played a crucial role in ensuring consistent weatherproofing and creating a harmonious audio-visual environment through the strategic relocation of speakers, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
“The positive feedback we’ve gotten from the district is what I’m most proud of. There’s been some really positive feedback from individuals using the system,” Thomas said.
