Connecting North America’s Largest Hyundai Dealership: D’Arcy Motors

One of Will County's most notable auto dealers and Joliet Mayor, Terry D'Arcy, undertook a $17 million construction project at 2000 Essington Road to open the largest Hyundai dealership in North America. The D'Arcy Hyundai dealership is part of a 25-acre campus, and the Hyundai dealership consists of 67,000 square feet and is adjacent to their Buick-GMC dealership. The auto sales campus consists of 1,600 designated parking spaces.

Low Voltage Solutions, Inc. was brought on board by the end user and General Contractor, R.L Sohol, for design build efforts for the low voltage systems throughout the dealership. As a one-stop-shop for all low voltage technology, the LVS team collaborated on the overall structured cabling, integrated security system, and audiovisual technology for the new dealership.

Structured Cabling + Wireless Access Points

LVS Project Manager and Professional Engineer, David Noel, led the overall structured cabling solutions for the project. The design of the main telecommunications room (MDF) consists of two 45RU 4-post open frame racks, ladder rack, patch panels, fiber enclosures, cable managers, patch cords, and PDUs to house and connect the various technology within the facility. The MDF is home to over 140 Cat6 plenum data locations throughout the facility to keep their employees connected. For wireless internet access, the facility contains 21 wireless access points strategically placed to provide seamless coverage. In collaboration with the LVS security, fire, and audiovisual teams, the MDF was designed to with each system plans in mind to provide the connectivity and power necessary for the overall technology solutions in the dealership.

Sound Masking
To provide an uninterrupted environment for their employees and customers, a Logison sound masking system was implemented to ensure smooth communication and operations at the dealership. Consisting of the main network control panel, 18 primary network hubs, 34 secondary network hubs, and 53 loudspeakers, white noise is being evenly distributed to balance out volumes and provide clear communication within the facility.

Access Control System

To secure the facility and monitor access, LVS provided a turnkey Avigilon access control system for the dealership. The facility is secured by 39 card readers with integrated keypads to control entry. The Avigilon solution has mobile device applications so users can access various parts of the facility using their phone or designated keycard. This access control solution was implemented on the doors both exterior and selected interior doors for secure areas as well as the overhead doors in the service garage areas. A key goal of the overall security system within the facility was to have an integrated solution with the video surveillance system in order to provide efficient and effective security.

Video Surveillance System

Integrated with the access control system is an Avigilon video system. LVS provided a turnkey solution with a 96TB NVR server and over 30+ cameras to monitor the campus. The facility is monitored by (6) 180 degree 15MP multi view cameras, (24) 360 degree 15MP multi view cameras, and (2) cameras with license plate recognition software. There are (8) cameras pole-mounted throughout the lot to ensure security of the 1,600 parking spaces of vehicles. As the video surveillance is integrated with the access control system, this allows the dealership to have video footage when unauthorized access events occur or when a situation arises that they need video and credential details around a specific timeframe.

Audio Visual Solutions

Main Boardroom

Inside the second floor of the facility is a large, 30-person boardroom for meetings, events, and employee training. In this multipurpose room with many use cases, audio visual technology solutions were needed in order to bring their vision to life. The boardroom provides streaming, wireless presenting, and Zoom conferencing capabilities. For virtual conferencing, Owl Labs was selected for the camera and is compatible with all web conferencing services. There are (5) TV displays in the room the provide for these functionalities. To house the necessary equipment needed for these technologies to function while keeping design in mind, LVS utilized a Middle Atlantic Credenza rack for the head-end equipment.
